« Palin and Romney to Jindal: "bring it on"!* | Main | Growing power of social media »

State of the Union

Will President Obama be Ronald Reagan or Jimmy Carter tonight? Will it be "the sky is falling" or "there's better days ahead"?

While the president remains highly popular, his policies have not been.  The markets are down 1,000 points since inauguration day, and many Americans feel we are heading down the path towards socialism.  He has a lot of ground to cover tonight: the stimulus package, the banking plan, the housing plan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the octuplet mom.

It'll be interesting to see how Republican Governor Bobby Jindal responds.  Will he criticize the President's policies or present a Republican alternative.

I'm watching the pre-game show on MSNC ... Chris Matthews laid into Bobby Jindal. Why, I'm not sure. The guy is nothing but impressive. Matthews mumbled something about Jindal being on the outer fringe of the Republican Party. Huh? This guy is a rockstar, and is probably going to be the Republican nominee someday.

bobby jindal sounded like a tour guide at Disneyworld aand his point was full of so many mistruths it is a wonder his speechwriters were allowed to let this thing fly. um, he complained about gov spending at a time when both houses and bush were in power. he complained about spending when his state was the recipient of more funds that most (including earmarks) post katrina -- and i didnt hear him complain about that gov't spending.

if he is the next face of the republican party, we democrats are in good shape. i have never heard him give a speech, but if he moves on, i cant wait to hear him in a debate. what a tool...

wow bet you wish you could take back your first comment, eh?

February 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenteranon

I do. Other things I wish I could take back: my hair in the 80s ... my hair in the 90s ... my hair in the 2000s ... my devotion to the Mets ... my prediction that Elliot Spitzer would be our first five term governor ... my prediction that William Hung would be "bigger than Jesus"

Mitch you're an idiot

You're 100% sure about Obama when his own VP cites a 30% failure possibility. If you knew anything about your history, you would know that Obama keeps citing FDR as getting us out of the depression, yet FDRs stimulus plan back then put the country FURTHER into depression and unemployment grew for seven straight years and the economy continued to decline, the only thing that got us out of it was the US entering the war. Again factual history - something the Left has no interest in.

Obama sits there and preeches about FISCAL RESPONISBILITY, yet his ENTIRE stimulus package is the complete opposite of this....Gov't is spending money it doesnt have...how is that fiscsally responsible? He is using fear mongering to make it seem like if GOV'T doesnt act all will fail...but the opposite it true...the private sector will find it's balance...the market itself will dictate what houses should be worth...the GOVT can't manipulate this...even if the GOVT tries in the short term...the real value of things will be set by THE MARKET...not the GOVT. Obama is going to spend billions of dollars to try and keep housing prices up which are OVER-VALUED to begin with...and how does he plan to do this....by opening lending up so Banks can once again give mortgages to people who are HIGH RISK?!?! It's absolutely insane...he's plan to get us out of this crisis is to follow the steps that brought us into this crisis to begin with. That's Obama's stimulus plan in a nutshell.

And in typical left fashion - before he is done passing one "stimulus" plan - he already is pushing through an additional $400+ billion full of useless gov't projects and he hinted last night at more to come.

Mitch the reason you are retarded is that you fail to grasp that all of this spending is DEBT. You're debt, my debt and our kids' kids debt at this rate.

The reason Capitalism works...is that the market replenishes itself. When institutions fail, NEW institutions take their place...and they provide the new jobs and GROW the economy. Obama's plan is to simply throw money at FAILED institutions to simply keep them afloat for a month at a time. They will only end up failing and we will only have created more debt with no result to show.

I would love for you Mitch to give us some SPECIFICS in Obama's policy that you feel is going to work. Give us examples of how this has worked in the past....EVER. You like most MORON Americans disagree with his policy (as nick states in this post) yet agree with the Man....well newsflash...it's the POLICY that matters and NOT the popularity contest.

Name me ONE Gov't program that runs efficiently and effectively that would lead anyone to believe that GOV'T envolvement is going to move anything in the right direction. Any for all you fools who think Nationalized healthcare is the way to go...speak to someone who actually LIVES in canada and needs a hip replacement or some other surgery and is put on a 18+ month waiting list, because "suffering" is not considered an immediate need to treat.

The left is a bunch of idiots....they are blind sheep with nothing at stake so that is why they don't care to discuss the specifics of a policy that is going to harm this country possibly beyond repair. Ohh but we have a first Black president....wooo hooo An underqualified black man gets the job....affirmative action for the highest office in the land with our economy in the balance....way to go liberals

take a xanax

February 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermitch

Exactly....you have no retort Mitch.

Broke ass PR exec with nothing at stake looking for a free lunch.

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Truth

what makes u think i am broke?

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermitch

Mitch I will bet my estate in Greenwich on the fact that you couldn't survive for 4 months without your paycheck.

Who are you kidding buddy...the pay scale of PR is well known and judging by your comments on here - you clearly haven't ascended very high.

Do you OWN you're home Mitch? Or are you the typical PR loser in NY who can barely make their rent payments, claims they are "making it" in NY because you go to what you consider cool events.

And if you do have a mortgage...do you owe LESS than the half the value? If not...umm..that's called DEBT...and you therefore ARE broke - like MOST people.

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Truth

um, i dont live in new york. i own my home (well, 70% of it) and i also have a condo in chicago my brother and i own.

i also have lots of savings and have been responsible with money my whole life. i work from my home and dont sit in a cublical.

that being said, i love obama and our country is great. so is what i do for a living.

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermitch

How nice you and your brother share a condo Mitch....in Chicago no less so you can be closer to your minister president....so very nice.

PR and works from home....I highly doubt you are rolling in ANYTHING and what is your substantial savings....10-20k...hahaha We both know if we audited you....there would be more debt than soluable assets....but you're the execption to the PR pay scale....right.

Why don't we start off easy Mitch.

Explain how

1) Obama is going to get banks lending again
2) Determine who gets a lower interest rate and who doesnt?

But you will dodge it....Nick why do you have such a small blog audience?

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterThe Truth

Truth is a fag. His shtick is more worn than Paris Hiltons pussy.

February 26, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermitch

Again the Left unable to articulate any defense results to name calling...Bush is monkey right.....ohh no wait that's Obama
